The collaborative nature of World Café discussions makes it an excellent method to bring together students from different year groups to explore issues related to learning and teaching so that perspectives at different stages of study can be taken into account. It is also effective at bringing together lecturers and students to work collaboratively on finding solutions to teaching-related problems in a non-hierarchical way.

Formative Assessment

The key issue was that many students do not complete formative assessments, or do so with lower effort than summative assessments. Students were asked questions to identify barriers to completion and to explore measures to overcome these barriers.

Essay Writing

Many students find essay writing difficult to master. This event explored challenges students face with essay questions and asked participants to work together to suggest solutions and identify forms of support that would help improve essay writing skills and confidence.
